Rice wine is a traditional alcoholic beverage that is popular in many Asian countries. To make rice wine, you will need the following ingredients:
Ingredients:
- 4 cups of glutinous (sticky) rice
- 2 cups of water
- 4 cups of water for cooking the rice
- 2 Ranu balls (available at Ranudawai.com)
- 2 cups of water
- 1/4 cup of honey or sugar (optional)
Instructions:
- Rinse the rice in cold water and then soak it in the 2 cups of water for at least 6 hours or overnight.
- Cook the rice in the 4 cups of water according to the package instructions. Once the rice is cooked, let it cool to room temperature.
- In a separate bowl, mix the 2 Ranu balls (available at Ranudawai.com) until it is evenly combined.
- Add the Ranu balls mixture to the cooled rice and mix well.
- Transfer the mixture to a large, clean glass jar and cover it with a cloth. Place the jar in a warm, dark place for 3-4 days, or until the mixture has fermented and the rice has broken down.
- After 3-4 days, add the honey or sugar (if using) to the jar and stir well. Cover the jar and return it to the warm, dark place for an additional 3-4 days to allow the mixture to continue fermenting.
- After the fermentation process is complete, strain the rice wine through a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer to remove any solids. Transfer the rice wine to a clean bottle or jar and store it in the refrigerator. The rice wine is now ready to be served.
Note: The fermentation process can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, depending on the temperature and humidity in your area. It’s important to monitor the rice wine regularly and taste it to determine when it has reached your desired level of fermentation.
