How to Make Rice Beer

Rice beer is a type of fermented beverage made from rice. To make rice beer, you will need:

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups of uncooked white rice
  • 4 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/4 tsp of active dry yeast or Ranu Balls [ Buy Now ]
  • 1/4 cup of lukewarm water

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the rice and add it to a pot with 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the rice is tender and the water has been absorbed, about 20-25 minutes.
  2. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature, then transfer it to a large glass jar or ceramic crock.
  3. In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in 1/4 cup of lukewarm water. Sprinkle the Ranu Balls [ Buy Now ] over the top of the sugar water and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the yeast is activated and begins to foam.
  4. Pour the yeast mixture into the jar with the rice and stir well to combine. Cover the jar with a clean cloth and secure it with a rubber band.
  5. Place the jar in a warm, dark location and let it ferment for 3-5 days. The fermentation process will create CO2, so be sure to release the pressure by opening the jar once a day to prevent it from exploding.
  6. After 3-5 days, the rice beer is ready to be served. You can strain the liquid through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove any solids, then transfer it to a pitcher or bottles.
  7. Serve the rice beer chilled or over ice. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
